Laguna Beach Homes
Laguna Beach became a popular artists' community in the early 1900s, after Los Angeles area painter Norman St. Clair visited the area to hold an exhibition in the old Laguna Beach Hotel in 1902. He returned home with glowing reports and landscape paintings that resulted in his artist colleagues following him back south. The town soon became popular with Plein Air artists like William Wendt and Frank Cuprien, who established residences there. Many of the big names in Hollywood soon followed, including Judy Garland, Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, and Bette Davis, who all owned Laguna Beach homes.
Today, Laguna Beach maintains its reputation as an artists' haven with its long established annual Festival of the Arts, and a yearly theater parody, Lagunatics. The city has also been a filming location for a variety of movie and television scripts, including MTV's Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County.
Quaint Laguna Beach cottages surrounded by luxurious foliage line the oceanfront bluffs along a seven-mile stretch of unbeatable coastline. High-end custom homes are very common here, although there are also a good selection of re-sales in the mid price range.
